  1. A friend of mine, English Professor at Marietta College in Marietta Ohio also teaches a class called Rhetoric of Science. Focusing on enviromental science. He has done a mountain (no pun intended)of research on mountain top removal. The method in which the coal companys literally turn a mountain upside down to get to a thin layer of coal of which only a very very small percentage is "quality" or acceptable for industry use. They do not even harvest the trees, they are plowed over and covered with dirt and used as fill in the valleys. And thats just the beginning. The methods of distruction and devastation these big coal companys use is dispicable. Anyway take a look just one of the informational websites that I have posted, if it doesnt make your blood boil nothing will.

  2. Then there is the process of "cleaning the coal" here is a list of cleaning agents that are used. (see link) Then after the process they put this sludge in massive (6 BILLION gallon) unlined earthen dams that are leaking into the ground water (documented)and perched above unknowing small towns dotted accross appalachia. One is even hovering just a few hundred feet above an elementary school.
    Ingrediants:
Coal sludge is filled with toxins. Each year coal preparation creates waste water containing an estimated 13 tons of mercury, 3236 tons of arsenic, 189 tons of beryllium, 251 tons of cadmium, and 2754 tons of nickel, and 1098 tons of selenium.[2]
